Nurses continue facing severe burnout and fatigue as the pandemic rages on throughout the nation – only increasing the level of nursing shortages. This deficiency coupled with a lack of appropriate level of investment for pandemic preparedness has only laid bare these crippling problems. As the pandemic exhausts our nursing workforce to its breaking point, we need Congress to ACT NOW to prioritize nurses by investing in pandemic preparedness and addressing the immediate and long-term nursing shortage crisis.
We have yet to see the full impact of nurses who are suffering from burnout, fatigue, and other mental health challenges as they continue to work on the frontlines and treat patients. Others have chosen to resign in self-preservation which places an even greater burden on the nursing workforce, patient outcomes and the larger health care delivery system.
If you are a nurse, tell your lawmakers about the nursing shortage and what you are enduring. And if you are a friend, loved-one, or patient of a nurse, share your story and remind your members of Congress time is of the essence for action. Customize your letter however you like.
