Posted over 3 years ago
Congratulations to Dr. Celia McIntosh DNP, RN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC,SCRN,CEN,CNRN, Rochester General Hospital, winners of the inaugural DAISY Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity! Dr. McIntosh is GVNA Legislative Committee Chairperson and Vice President of Rochester Black Nurses Association.
This award was created by the DAISY foundation to honor nurses whose work advances health equity, mitigating health disparities that are caused by social determinants of health. Rochester Regional Health received nominations of nurses from across the system who have gone above and beyond in caring for patients and communities that are disadvantaged demographically, psycho-socially, or economically.
Celia received three separate nominations. They all stressed her advocacy for victims of human trafficking: “During her time working at Rochester Regional Coalition Against Human Trafficking, she has made an amazing impact on the community awareness of human rights…She is a local activist who is making global change." Another common theme was Celia's wide-ranging, unrelenting efforts to help people: “Celia is a tireless advocate for the Black and Brown community; she spends countless hours advocating to reduce police brutality and to get mental health treatment for people in crisis… Celia is a powerhouse woman, someone we should all emulate in her professionalism, her character and her smarts."
