Posted over 2 years ago
Dr. Detherage was well known my many in the Rochester nursing community. She was the first and to date, the only African American President of the Genesee Valley Nurses Association. More information can be found at: https://www.democratandchronicle.com/obituaries/rdc184106

I was the other candidate running against Dr. Katherine Detherage for president of GVNA, she won!
Dr. Katherine Detherage was a wonderful colleague who served as Chair of the Nursing Program at Fisher more than 20 years ago. She was a role model who influenced many nurses and students over the years. She will be missed.
I will Katherine, role model and leader. She was approachable and taught in a manor the student wanted to listen to. A leader for me! And many others!
Katherine was a warm and caring nurse. She was a teacher, a role model, a colleague and a friend to many.
In her quiet, reserved and dignified manner, she paved the way to enhance the future of nursing.
She will be missed but her legacy lives on.
