Posted over 7 years ago by Natalie Masco Dixon

GVNA congratulates Dr. Laura Markwick, DNP, FNP on receiving the NPA Nurse Practitioner of the Year award. Laura has been an active part of GVNA for many years, and is the current past-president.

Dr. Markwick is a practice innovator who demonstrates a strong commitment to serving hard to reach populations. She was a leader in a local effort, including obtaining grant funding, to include adults in our established tele-health services for children. Laura's work in tele-health has been recognized through publication and presentation and in a documentary on the Discovery Channel regarding the use of tele-health. She has been instrumental in the evolution and leadership of St John Fisher College's Prime Care LLC, which provides health care to the uninsured using a unique approach that is nurse practitioner led and integrates mental health services. Dr. Markwick is currently analyzing the patient outcome data from Prime Care. More recently, Laura has opened her own NP practice. Her strong clinical background serves her very well in this endeavor, as does her leadership training and experience. Laura's practice has always provided a place for students to learn the role of the NP from a master clinician, and she routinely precepts NP students. Evidence of her scholarly approach to clinical practice is abundant in her presentations and emerging publications.
